What is a Nameserver?

A name server is a specialized server on the internet that handles and provides responses to queries, from the local computer. Nameservers help in connecting URLs with IP addresses of web servers. It is the server component of DNS (Domain Name System) which is one of the two principal namespaces of the Internet.

How does it work?

1. When you type a domain name into the address bar of our web browser and press enter, the browser sends a request to that domain’s nameservers. Here your computer makes use of DNS to search the name servers for that domain.

2. Your computer requests the IP address from the nameservers and nameservers respond back with the IP address of the website’s server.

3. Your browser requests the website content from that IP address.

4. Your browser then retrieves the content and renders it in your browser
