What is SSL?

SSL is an abbreviated form Secure Socket Layer. It is a standard security technology followed by websites. This link enables an encrypted link that ensures that all data passed between the web server and browser remain private.

SSL certificates also inspire trust because each SSL certificate contains identification information. This will protect customers from becoming a victim to scammers.

When you request an SSL certificate, a third party verifies your organization’s information and issues a unique certificate to you with that information. This is known as the authentication process.

An SSL certificate helps secure information such as:
  • Login credentials
  • Credit card transactions or bank account information
  • Personally identifiable information — such as full name, address, date of birth, or telephone number
  • Proprietary information
  • Legal documents and contracts
  • Medical records
